Austin Best

Life can be funny sometimes. You might start off on plan A and end up on plan Z before you even had a chance to blink an eye! That’s just life. In all honesty, that’s the beautiful thing about the journey- discovering all the opportunities and people on the way. We enjoy learning about all the different backgrounds of our members at desk chair. Today I would like you to introduce you to Austin Best one of our Dedicated Desk Members here at desk chair.

Q: Tell us a little about your career journey

A: Well, interestingly enough, I started off as an EMT and then went to college and got a degree in computer science. After graduation, I became a Development Manager.  I work with onshore and offshore developers to deliver enterprise-level tech software. The software we are developing works with oil and gas companies for an example.

Q:  Give us your elevator pitch – describe your business in a few words.

A: We are the second largest professional services firm in the world – providing auditing services across several different industries.  We are in 158 different countries all over the world!

Q:  What’s the story behind the business name?

A: In 1854 is when William Cooper founded his accounting practice that started all of this. In 1998 Price Water House practice merged with the William Cooper practice and they just mixed the name together.

Q:  Have you always wanted to be doing what you are doing now?

A: No – honestly, I originally wanted to become a Doctor. During the time I was an EMT it just really didn’t feel like a good career in our country at the time and I felt like software development was a better fit for me personally.

Q:  How did you decide to choose coworking and what is your favorite part about it?

A: I was working from home for a number of years and had a hard time focusing and really felt like I was lacking social interaction.  The options seemed to be – A. finding a coworking space locally or B. driving down to Denver, and I did not want to do that lol.

Q:  How did you hear about desk chair workspace?

AMy wife and I watched the space while it was in development and I was curious about it. We actually ended up having our wedding reception here and had a great experience. I decided that it could be a great fit for me personally.

Q:  What is your favorite part about desk chair workspace?

A: I really like being downtown!  It’s nice to get out of the house and get social interaction. It can be isolating to be in the house all the time.

Q:  What do you like to do for fun?

A: My wife and I like to hike!  We spend a lot of time at the breweries in town- as most Coloradoans do. We love hanging out at Flipside playing pinball, that’s our spot!

Q:  Besides your own, what is your favorite local business?

A: Flipside, the pinball arcade bar here in town.

Q: If you could share a drink or dinner with anyone in the world, who would it be and why?

Allen Turing, the founder of computer science. Allen was an influential code breaker and mathematician in world war 2. We love having Ausitn apart of our desk chair members, thank you for being apart of our community!
